What Is an Ez Grader?

The Ez Grader was originally a physical cardboard slide-wheel tool invented in the 1930s and used by teachers for decades to quickly look up grades without doing division by hand. You'd set the total number of questions on the wheel, then read off what percentage corresponded to each number of wrong answers.

This free digital version does exactly the same thing — instantly and for any number of questions. No wheel, no math, no waiting. Enter your question count and the entire grade scale appears immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Ez Grader.

What is an Ez Grader?

An Ez Grader is a grading tool that generates a complete grade scale for a test or quiz based on the total number of questions. Teachers traditionally used a physical cardboard wheel called the "Ez Grader" to quickly look up what score corresponds to how many wrong answers. This free digital version does the same thing instantly.

How do I use the Ez Grader?

Simply enter the total number of questions on the test. The tool instantly generates a full grade scale showing what score a student gets for each number of wrong answers — from 0 missed (100%) down to all missed (0%). You can hover over any row to highlight it.

What is the difference between Ez Grader and Easy Grader?

"Ez Grader" and "Easy Grader" refer to the same tool — a grading scale calculator for teachers. Both names are commonly used to search for this type of grading wheel calculator online. Our Easy Grader page works identically to this one.

How do you calculate a grade from number of wrong answers?

Divide the number of correct answers by the total number of questions, then multiply by 100. For example, on a 25-question test where a student got 3 wrong: (25 - 3) ÷ 25 × 100 = 88%. This calculator does that math for every possible score automatically.

Can I use this for quizzes with partial credit?

This calculator assumes each question is worth equal points with no partial credit. For tests with varying point values or partial credit, use the Grade Calculator instead — you can enter each question or section as a separate scored item.

What is the highest number of questions supported?

This Ez Grader supports tests up to 200 questions, which covers virtually all classroom scenarios from short quizzes to comprehensive final exams.
